academic preparedness

We want to be sure your child, age 4 or 5, is ready to enter kindergarten after completing pre-kindergarten at First Kids. Our pre-kindergarten teachers will help your child know the alphabet and count to 10. Your child will also practice writing their name daily, as well as writing in their writing journal. Reading is also a focus in our pre-kindergarten classroom. From listening to stories to rhyming words, your child will be exposed to reading readiness skills upon completing pre-kindergarten and First Kids.

Daily activities include eight learning domains:

  • Language/Literacy
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Creative Arts
  • Social/Emotional
  • Approaches to Learning
  • Physical Development/Health

socialization & Motor skills

Socialization and motor skills are essential to kindergarten readiness! Your child will develop social skills with their peers and teachers in the pre-kindergarten classroom. Your child will also develop fine and gross motor skills, such as writing with a pencil, using safety scissors and walking up and climbing stairs.

In pre-kindergarten, children no longer take naps. Instead, your child will have quiet time before afternoon pick-up. Since kindergarten classrooms do not offer naps, a short quiet time is a great way to prepare your child for full day kindergarten.

hands-on curriculum

Your child will love our hands-on curriculum! From conducting science experiments to learning through play, your child will develop a love for learning at First Kids ECC. Curriculum activities are designed to address established early learning goals and standards throughout the United States. Our curriculum follows Missouri Early Learning Goals set forth by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

In the pre-kindergarten classroom, your child will have opportunities for individual expression and to practice decision making. This classroom environment promotes skills and discipline, inspires creativity, encourages flexibility, and allows for emotional release.

covid-19 response

The health and safety of all First Kids Early Childhood Center families are of the utmost importance at First Kids Early Childhood Center. We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure all persons in our facilities follow guidelines set by Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) in relation to COVID-19.

Click here to see all the precautionary measures we are following.

Missouri DHSS and CDC have no requirement for children, staff, or parents to wear masks while at the facility. In a balancing act of being safe and not scaring the children, we are allowing teachers to determine if they prefer to wear a face mask. Face masks are provided for First St. Charles staff, including First Kids Early Childhood Center staff.
